Festival Assistant

Summary: Reporting to the Artistic Director and Festival Manager, the Festival Assistant is responsible for day to day support of the office and coordination of logistics, programming and supplies. They will help in the production and operations for the 2021 Online Weengushk International Film Festival. We are open to candidates from Manitoulin Island and across Ontario to work remotely. 

Salary: $18/hr for 35 hours a week (280 hours total) 

This contract position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs.

End day: July 23, 2021

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • ​Aiding in advancing for performers and invited guests for interviews, workshops and filmmaker Q/A’s 

  • Administration support and planning for the Production Staff and team

  • Create contracts and advancing documents for all performers and filmmakers

  • Working with Broadcast team to confirm all logistics and tech details 

  • Answering and referring telephone enquiries

  • Maintaining and distributing staff contact lists

  • Supporting in responding to the organization’s email correspondences

  • Organizing and minuting meetings and events, including Board and Committee meetings

  • Communicating changes in the production schedule to required parties

  • Assist the Production team in the supervision of festival operations, as needed, including programming activations, security operations, and networking opportunities both in person and online. 

  • Other duties as assigned

NOTE – this position may involve extended hours during Festival, July 9, 10, and 11, 2020


Skills & Qualities Desired:

  • If possible, some experience in event and festival planning, production and logistics

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and problem solving skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proficient in Google Docs and web-based file sharing

  • Strong spelling and grammar skills

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Desire and ability to take initiative and coordinate projects

  • Ability to work and respond well in fast-paced and high pressure environments

  • Understanding and commitment to creating a superior product

  • An inquisitive, open-minded type, who seeks out new ways to support the development of the organization

  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends
